As part of First Book’s OMG Books Awards, we are happy to showcase how our books are being used in Pueblo, Colorado!
Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) Pueblo is a coalition of business leaders and organizations committed to providing families with resources to help build the foundation they need for early success in academics and life. With its OMG Books Award, EPIC Pueblo is expanding its ongoing programs.
Books in the Park is one such program. EPIC Pueblo partnered with the Pueblo Library to make new books accessible to families in Pueblo all summer long. The events rotate through local parks and provide books, snacks, crafts, and storytime.
Paula Dunn, a local educator in the community, said she’s received positive feedback from the families about the books provided.
“People love that they’re new, and they love the selection,” Dunn said. “We’ve had comments from parents who are happy to get nonfiction and bilingual books for their children.”
First Book is launching the third phase of the OMG Books Awards (Offering More Great Books to Spark Innovation) on July 8, 2019. Overall, this initiative will give more than $4.7 million in funding to programs serving children in need. This equals about 1.5 million brand-new books and eBooks to children living in low-income communities!
