Can you believe it? It’s been 50 years since a little green and red insect with an insatiable appetite began his transformative journey. Can you remember the first time you read this book or the first time you read it to a loved one?

This book means so much to us here at First Book because for so many of the kids we serve, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is their first book. A few years ago, we wanted to make this book accessible to even more kids and families, so we worked with Penguin Random House to create a special bilingual edition of the title.

And beginning November 19, Penguin Random House will help us once again make sure this book and more like it are accessible to the educators, children, and families we serve. As part of this milestone book birthday celebration, Penguin Random House will match every donation to First Book. Every book your donation provides this holiday season will be matched with a book from Penguin Random House, up to 200,000 books. This means from November 19 through December 31, a $3 gift will provide 2 books to the children we serve.

On Giving Tuesday (November 27), Facebook will also match donations made through the Facebook platform. So, if you start a Facebook fundraiser for First Book and receive donations on Giving Tuesday, every gift made will also have double impact — ultimately providing 4 times the books to kids!
