First Book & Healthcare Programs: Supporting Healthy Bodies & Healthy Minds

The wellbeing of a child extends far outside the classroom. Many caring adults have a hand in a child’s development – from parents and teachers to librarians and pediatricians. Here at First Book, we recognize the many different needs of all child caregivers and strive to meet all of them.

With that in mind, we’ve built The First Book Marketplace Health & Wellness hub. Created with the support of Molina Healthcare, this special section of the First Book Marketplace features a curated selection of books that promote healthy living, as well as sports equipment and free resources that promote the importance of healthy habits, eating right, and active lifestyles.

The American Academy of Pediatrics acknowledge that reading regularly with young children stimulates brain development and strengthens parent-child relationships at a critical time in child development – which, in turn, builds language, literacy, and social-emotional skills that last a lifetime. Many pediatric providers have embraced their unique opportunity to encourage parents to engage in reading with their children beginning in infancy.

Take a look at how First Book community member program, Reach Out and Read Kansas City, incorporates books in pediatric visits:

We all have a part to play to support our kids’ learning, health, and wellbeing. We are proud to support our healthcare partners and provide whatever a child may need to read, learn, and grow!
