First Book Partners Honored in The Civic 50
Guest blog post written by Catherine Doyle, First Book Strategic Alliances Intern. Catherine is currently studying English and Educational Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
Each year, Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer services, recognizes the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation in The Civic 50. Determined by an annual survey administered by True Impact, the honorees are selected based on four dimensions of U.S. community engagement and social programs:
- Investments of resources,
- Integration across business functions,
- Institutionalization through policies, and
- Systems and impact measurements.
First Book is thrilled to see our partners Citi, KPMG, and Tata, among the list of exceptional companies.
Teach Children to Save | Citi
Through their annual Teach Children to Save campaign, Citi volunteers visit K-12 classrooms across the country to provide young students with basic financial education and encourage them to develop positive financial habits early in life.
First Book supports Citi’s campaign by providing financial education-themed books to supplement each Teach Children to Save reading event in grades K-5.
Family for Literacy | KPMG
In collaboration with First Book, KPMG created their Family for Literacy (KFFL) program in 2008, and has been working to provide children from low-income families with new books ever since. Through this partnership, KFFL has provided almost 6 million new books to children in need in more than 100 communities across the United States.
P. Scott Ozanus, the Chair of KPMG’s Americas region and US Deputy Chairman and Chief Operating Officer states, “Having worked closely with First Book to create KPMG Family for Literacy program, I have witnessed the difference these resources can make in the lives of children, and I support bringing the power of this model to every family in need.”
Distributing Educational Resources | Tata
Tata is committed to serving the communities in which they work and live in the United States, Canada, and across the world. Tata works with schools, non-profits, and community groups to promote life-long learning and ensure an inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
Since 2007, Tata has collaborated with First Book, helping deliver over 500,000 new books and educational resources to more than 800 schools across the U.S. and Canada.
Partner with First Book
First Book is proud to partner with each of these impactful companies and looks forward to continuing our work together. Collaborating closely with leading businesses, nonprofits, and individuals to promote equal access to quality education for kids in need, we have distributed more than 200 million new books and learning materials to schools and programs serving children from low-income families.
We are deeply grateful for the support of our generous partners and are eager to collaborate with other outstanding organizations that care about making a difference on behalf of kids and heroic educators. We would love to explore ways to work together and provide many more books and resources to kids who need them.
