Why Your Donation Matters

We believe every child should have equal access to quality education.

For over 30 years, fueled by generous donations from hundreds of thousands of supporters, First Book has made a direct impact on the lives of millions of children in need.

Today, we serve 1 out of every 3 classrooms or programs with low-income students. But we don’t do it alone. First Book’s network of educators is the largest of its kind. Over 600,000 individual classroom teachers, summer and early childhood program staff, librarians, community advocates, care providers, and more – all working together to build a more promising future for children and families in need.

Since 1992, First Book has distributed more than 250 million high-quality books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income communities in all 50 states and provinces in Canada.

Your donation is used to provide brand-new, age-appropriate books to families who have none. Your support is used to provide educators with entire classroom libraries filled with books and resources. Your gift helps outfit school libraries, helps provide basic hygiene products and other essential items. Most importantly, your generosity bestows a love of reading, the fuel for the imagination, and the ability for families to bond together.

Your donation matters. It matters to millions of families every year.

From our family to yours – thank you.

Thanks to the quality and affordability of these books, our local students have had the opportunity to start building their own in-home library, and build on their literacy skills.

I was able to give my classroom library a makeover and First Book gave me the opportunity to be intentional about the diversity and variety of genres that I added.
