Healthy Mind, Healthy Body: Social Emotional Learning

Presented by First Book with generous support from Molina Healthcare

Helping Educators Foster Social & Emotional Development

The “Healthy Mind, Healthy Body” initiative is a comprehensive effort to support educators serving kids in need with new resources focused on social and emotional development—an area identified by First Book’s membership of educators and program leaders as a top health education priority.

The program includes two curated collections of books for children, one for Grades PreK-K and the other for Grades 1-3, to use in teaching lessons incorporating the social and emotional learning skills necessary for kids to manage their emotions and behavior.

These resources were developed in partnership with CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) to help children understand and articulate their feelings and better manage their resulting behavior. Each resource features group activities inspired by the accompanying book, plus a letter for families (available in English and Spanish) to help extend the learning into the home.
