National Book Foundation

First Book has partnered with the National Book Foundation, with support from the New York Times Communities Fund, to bring books and educational resources to public housing communities through the Book Rich Environments initiative. This tri-sector collaboration unites nonprofit organizations, national government agencies, and corporate publishers to ensure families living in public housing communities have access to high-quality books. Through this partnership, First Book has helped the National Book Foundation distribute nearly 45,000 books in 19 states—providing children with stories that spark imagination, expand knowledge, and foster a lifelong love of reading. To date, Books Rich Environments has distributed over 2 million books to children and families in 62 communities across the country.
