First Book’s Honor Roll
My mother was a high-school biology teacher for 32 years, every week was Teacher Appreciation Week in our house. To say I understood her impact on a child’s life is an understatement, but I hear of her impact often.
“Oh, you’re Ms. Awad’s daughter? She was the best teacher I ever had. I know she technically taught biology, but she taught me so much more.”
“Your mom was tough! But she cared so much about us. I’ll never forget her class.”
To this day, I’ll ask my mom, “How do you know that person?” and she’ll tell me they’re a former student from 1993 or 1983, where they sat in class, and her favorite memory of them.
I share this story, not because I’m proud of my mom (though I am!); but rather, because of the impact educators across America have on learners every day. With over half a million dedicated educators in First Book’s Network, our members are changing lives, inspiring students, helping parents, and creating a path to success for hundreds of thousands of students each day.
Thank You, Partners
Each year we ask you who deserves to be on our Honor Roll, and this year felt extra special after a year+ of teaching through a pandemic. With support from our partners, we were able to provide 100 educators with a special gift for their dedication and commitment.
Special thank you to C&S Wholesale Grocers, Headspace, Pizza Hut, Kendra Scott, New York Life Foundation, and Modcloth for helping us to celebrate the amazing impact of our educators.
